A little more on chairs

Is it too much with the chairs? Probably! With my search for the perfect kitchen chairs always on my mind I think about chairs. A lot. And I kind of love them and have this compulsion to put one in every corner. I found these prints on a blog about props. I think their charming and fun, and would look great as a series or alone. Don't you love how just about anything can be turned into art?

Kitchen Table Inspiration

Remember this thrift store find from an earlier post? It is finally getting it's much needed makeover. I'm hopeful that it will be completed this weekend and that my search for chairs will not take forever (which it already seems to be doing).

I am a huge fan of the juxtaposition of styles, colors, and patterns. It speaks to my aesthetic completely. What is it that I keep seeing top designers saying? That a mix of modern and vintage is what makes a home feel "collected" instead of "decorated." I completely agree.

This hanging drum shade was exactly what I was envisioning hanging over my table.

Silver Console and a Little Halloween

After posting about my current love of silver furniture I thought it would be fun to try and create a piece for my house. Luckily, I had this console table that I got off Craigslist several years ago. I figured since I got it cheap if it didn't turn out it wouldn't be a big lose. I emptied out the drawers and carried it outside.

One coat of primer and two coats of satin nickle spray paint that I already had later...

It turned out really cute, and it was super easy to paint! I do think it would look better against a darker wall, so it may be relocated in the future. But for now it's something new.

I figured the end of September wasn't too early to get my Halloween stuff out, and it certainly provided the right motivation for my girls to clean up some toys! Besides with three months of holidays I have that much longer to find just the perfect things to adorn my new silver console.

Paste Collage Inspiration

{Inspiration One}

I'm just going to come out and say that this first project didn't turn out exactly the way I envisioned. While standing in the check out line at Michael's (mourning my forgotten coupon), I spotted these rub-ons in the dollar bins:

Vintage chairs - one of my favorite things. I immediately thought of Pastesf's chair collection and grabbed a sheet thinking there must be something I can do with them.

I found some unused frames and scrapbook paper and went to work.

Overall, an easy project, but I should have put a little more thought into it before I started rubbing.

I rubbed the chairs directly onto the glass so that paper can easily be changed behind it to create a new look for a new room.
Not bad, but I wish there had been different styled chairs.

{Inspiration Two}

This next project I'm really excited about. They turned out so cute!
I combined these two things:

...and came up with something that is going to go perfectly in my daughter's dress up area.

All I need is two more frames and some yellow paint to complete the project!

These were so much fun to create and really easy. I hand drew and cut each shoe and embellishment (except for the flowers, which I owe to my Cricut), and then taped them onto the paper so I could change out the background if later I decided on white or a different color.

All I have to say is collage is my new friend and I'm definitely thinking some more projects may surface in the future! Can you just see adorable cupcakes and cute kitties?

Feeling inspired? Email me your collage creations and inspirations! I'll feature my favorites.

{Wanting to be true to the spirit of collage? Grab some decoupage and put your paper on canvas!}

Paste Collages

Between my passion for chairs and my love of vintage, I couldn't help but be enchanted by these oringial collages made from aged newsprint. When I hopped on over to Pastesf to check them out I found that there was a lot more than chairs to look at.

I feel inspired! Anyone else's creative juices flowing?

Shamelessly Showing Off and Vintage Chairs

I'm not sure what exactly I'm shamelessly showing off more - my baby (just turned one!) or my gorgeous vintage chairs! I snagged these (there are two) lovelies off some one's driveway several months ago. I was on my way to my in-laws house when I spotted these two amazing chairs sitting in the driveway of my in-law's neighbor. The second I saw them I turned to my husband and said, "I want those chairs." Five minutes after we got to his parent's I hopped back in the car and drove over to the neighbor's. I couldn't believe my bravado when I rolled down the window and asked if they were throwing them away. They were all set for donation and she said I could have them!!! I couldn't believe my luck. I offered to pay for them, but she said they were mine. EEEeeee! They need recovering in a major way. I don't mind the yellow velor - it grows on me every day - but it's in bad shape. But the overall construction of the chairs is sound and sturdy. And all that button tufting? Don't get me started!

Aren't they amazing? My baby's pretty cute, too, huh? I just need to figure out where their final resting place will be so I can decide on what fabric to reupholster them in. I tend to move furniture around, so I keep thinking of a neutral, but patterned, fabric. But my love of color is screaming to something bold. There are so many gorgeous fabrics out there. How do I decide?
Stay tuned for the completion of my first reupholstery project!

All that glisters is not gold...
