Art Week - Day 2

My girlie #2 LOVES superheroes and I am loving these amazing vintage posters by Michael Blaine Myer. So nice to see these familiar images in a sophisticated way that is appealing to adults and kids alike.

Art Week

I have always loved art. I think I was one of the only kids who was thrilled with my 4th grade field trip to the Crocker Art Museum, and whose favorite day of the week was when the art docent came. So it has long been a dream of mine to have the walls of my home look like a gallery. Here are some pieces I'm considering for my family and dining rooms. You might be surprised that only two artist are featured in these selections, one of whom is Picasso. Picasso seems most recognized by his cubism inspired paintings and sketches. But I am drawn to his paintings from in the realism style and the paintings from The Rose period.

The other artist is a man by the name of Amedeo Modigliani. He was a contemporary of Picasso's and his paintings were largely portraits. His portraits are heavily influenced by his love of sculpture and African masks.

Stripes

For awhile now I have been loving large horizontal stripes. It's something I've been wanting to do either in my bathroom, master room, or laundry room. Maybe these images will convince my husband it's worth all the tape!

Table and Chairs

Last week we FINALLY got our kitchen table painted. It didn't turn out quite as nice as we'd hoped but considering only my kids will be eating at it it doesn't bother me too much. I used a high gloss paint, but it wasn't as glossy as I was expecting. But all in all it is soooo nice to have that project finally finished.

Now it is onto the chairs. They are ripped apart and in the sanding process. I'm hoping to get these sanded and painted (and possibly reupholstered) this weekend. Thanks goodness for my hubby's help with these, otherwise it would take forever!

Maps and Globes

Did I say I would be back Wednesday? Oops. I guess it was more like Monday...almost Tuesday...But here I am and LOVING the use of maps and globes in home decor.

Isn't this giant wall mural in Centsational Girl's playroom great?

This is something I'm considering trying for the four large STILL empty frames in my playroom: Paper collage pictures over a map background.

This image is from an Ethan Allen Magazine and I love that they are not the usual maps, but black and white street maps. It gave me the idea that it would be fun to google maps of places you've been (or want to go) and create a memory wall/time line of your life in maps. Something I'm considering for my entry hallway.

I am completely enchanted by globes lately and would LOVE to start a collection. Globes are definitely something I keep an eye out for when I go thrifting.

These are actual maps that were put up like wallpaper. An even easier way to do it? Tacks. Easy to put up, easy to take down. Just make sure they are up high and behind shelves to keep little fingers from tearing!
